Canadian Cult Filmmaker, Bruce McDonald, To Guest Judge 7th Annual Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF) Toronto’s Subway Film Festival
Toronto, ON [April 15, 2013] -- Canadian cult filmmaker, Bruce McDonald, will guest judge the 7th annual Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF), it was announced today. Known for his unique voice and offbeat sense of humour, McDonald has an impressive body of work that includes such award-winning films as Highway 61 (1991), Hard Core Logo (1996), Picture Claire (2001) and Pontypool (2008). He joins a notable list of past guest judges that includes Jennifer Baichwal, Atom Egoyan, Deepa Mehta, Don McKellar, Mark McKinney and Jeremy Podeswa.
The Toronto Urban Film Festival returns to Pattison Onestop screens across the Toronto subway system, September 6 - 16, 2013. Films run at 10-minute intervals to an audience of over 1 million daily commuters. Deadline for submissions is July 15, 2013.
"I'm very excited to be this year’s guest judge,” said McDonald. “The festival is a great opportunity for filmmakers to reach everyday people and the format presents a great challenge to the exciting creative minds of our city."

McDonald will select the top three films of the festival as well as the winner of the Naish McHugh Award for Emerging Filmmakers, a $2,500 cash award presented by the City of Toronto. He will be assisted in his selection by returning TUFF programmer, Angie Driscoll.
The 7th annual TUFF is open to Canadian and international submissions. The festival accepts all genres of silent, one-minute film, video and animation that are of interest to an urban audience. Entry is free prior to June 15, 2013. A $20 entry fee will be charged after that date. The final submission deadline is July 15, 2013. TUFF is an eleven day long celebration of the art of the urban silent screen. Films appear on the Pattison Onestop network of over 300 platform screens found throughout the Toronto subway system. TUFF is the largest festival of its kind in North America. In 2010, it was named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s “20 Coolest Film Festivals”.
